Program
Danny Latendorf
The festival opens with a clash of cultures generated from a loving perspective on the local tradition of “Garde” dancing. In between the opening speeches choreographer Reut Shemesh presents a specially adapted version of her work WITNESS, which she devised together with the Garde dancers of the State Capital Düsseldorf.

Do away with nature and bring on politics! Club Real has established a community government in Vienna where all living creatures from snails to chestnut trees are equal members of a single political body. In Düsseldorf they will open the State Archive and present the work of the Parliament of Organisms.
Suffering can be turned into art and therefore money. ALL INCLUSIVE uses this insight to develop a cutting satire on how easily a Western audience may consume war and violence.
Welcome to a very special kind of playground! The GARDEN OF CHICKS* is a bar, strip club and safe space, providing a venue for feminist workshops and encounters with a thrilling atmosphere. The CHICKS* will take care of everyone – every body is welcome! And it all takes place in what used to be Düsseldorf’s largest public toilet.

The history of opera is full of stories that deploy faraway places and foreign people as exotic sensations. Using Puccini’s opera ‘Madama Butterfly’ and their own personal experiences, a soprano and a percussionist lead us through the tense history of a genre that operates in between racism and a casting practice that has no interest in performers’ origins or ethnicities.

What is femininity? Who does it belong to? And why is feminisation regarded as something negative? Four performers describe their struggle to live feminine lives their own way. They use dance and language to draw intimate self-portraits from what they have experienced, what they have longed for and social realities between India and Western Europe.

Markus&Markus don’t know what to do but they do know why. In a time full of hatred and hostility, they tell us of their journey into the world of Islam. A search for connections and things in common that will take them as far as Mecca. But is it a fairy tale or reportage?

A man, a woman, a living room. In this setting the audience become witnesses to the noxious routines of a relationship in which intimacy invariably leads to brutality. The spiral of violence continues for over five hours: distressing and apparently inescapable.

Rocky crags, a mammoth, swaths of mist: the opulent stage design transports the audience to the cave in the Neandertal, where the skeleton of an early human was found in 1865. Here a fur-clad actor reveals the vulnerability of his soul in a touching monologue and searches for an answer to the question of whether — and, if yes, then how — we want to live together.
Can theatre make people happy? In HAPPYOLOGY you can try this out! Three performers join the audience for an expedition into the shallows of life coaching, well-being courses and positive psychology.

Welcome to hormone hell! In an exclusive and intimately private location the PMS team invites you to a late night show about a phenomenon that some people claim is a myth: pre-menstrual syndrome. With an emotional rollercoaster and a great deal of self-laceration.
On 28.6., there will be an audience talk directly after the show. Psst! Secrets – everybody knows some and everyone has some. Why do secrets, hidden things and suppressed issues excite us so much? Even the word itself incites curiosity:... View Article
