There will be an audience talk on 8th nov.
Hardly any other performing arts group in Europe explores the relationships of the body, the stage and the audience with as much perseverance as Slovenian group Via Negativa does. In doing so, they develop a game of exposure, excess and violence that leans on body art. They already guested at FFT Düsseldorf multiple times, most recently during the 2017/2018 season opening. They will present their production 365falls as part of the international performance series Eve of Destruction in November.
In the piece, they deal with the balance and steadfastness that people struggle to attain on a daily basis. Yet, the plunges, accidents and insecurity are rather determinants in world history. Via Negativa examines the paradoxical relation between the necessity for change and the desire for stability. In the process, the ensemble invents strong images for the human will to oppose the laws of gravity time and again. With every step that seems like a little progress we yet stumble closer to the last big fall. A slippery evening about the political and cultural Europe that aims to keep the balance as long as at all possible, all the while also stabilising the (power) conditions.
Via Negativa is an international platform for the research into as well as the development and production of contemporary performance art from Ljubljana. It was founded in 2002 and operates under the artistic direction of Bojan Jablanovec. Via Negativa searches for various performative strategies with a focus on the ethics and the vibrancy of performative practice, processes, and genres. Via Negativa developed more than 50 projects and numerous workshops. They were shown in 24 European countries and in the US. These projects involved more than 90 performers from Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Belgium, Spain, Ireland, Poland, Denmark, Romania and Hungary.
