Düsseldorf-Flingern: Welcome to the hub of gentrification! This is where Marlin de Haan has relocated her version of Chekov’s comedy The Cherry Orchard, with the characters as squatters. The piece about land sold and residents evicted reflects squat culture in Düsseldorf from the 1980’s until today. Director and visual artist Marlin de Haan and her team examine the development of urban space: who needs what space? What places do we want to preserve? When is the act of criticizing renovations merely grounded in nostalgia? What other possibilities and ideas are there?
In collaboration with Jan Patrick Brandt (set design), Parisa Karimi (media art), Anton Chekov and protagonists from Düsseldorf.
Coproduction: FFT Düsseldorf. Cooperation: zakk – Zentrum für Aktion, Kultur und Kommunikation, Düsseldorf. Production: Marlin de Haan. Funded by the: Cultural Department of the City of Düsseldorf, NRW Ministry for Culture and Science, Fonds Darstellende Künste, Stiftung van Meeteren.
