Following “Kafka in Wonderland”, half past selber schuld now present their first English-language stage comic. The Last Mortal is concerned with humanity’s eternal struggle with disease and death. Mega enterprise Wonderland Inc. continues to improve humans with technological enhancements. Then, Alexa becomes president of the world, and Big Data appears as a superhero offering his help to anyone, yet without differentiation as to who it is actually feeding information to. The battle against racism is waged through skin colour filters, while tiny nanorobots advance against illnesses in the body, therein stumbling over philosophical questions of principle.
The Last Mortal is a collection of situations that traverses different stages of this fictitious future through music, puppetry, and figure play. Portraying these radical upheavals, it expresses the drama of a transitory generation. It traces the path of the mortal and organic human being towards the immortal, artificial hybrid. Inspired by thoughts and predictions made by transhumanist thinkers such as Ray Kurzweil and other visionaries, the actual technological state of our world will be redrawn satirically. In doing so, hopeful imagery and disturbing scenarios appear, meaning to fully convey the spectrum of this progress, showing the contradictions alongside the enormous new possibilities.
