Hala wants to leave Damascus and move to Germany. Her friend Rand feels obliged to stay until her boyfriend has completed his military service in the Syrian army. Which path is the right one? Solidarity with one’s country or protecting one’s own life? Is there a right or a wrong? “Your Love is Fire” is a song by 1960’s Egyptian singer Abdelhalim Hafez about the yearning for past, supposedly safer days. Using this title, Syrian author Mudar Alhaggi deals with his own experiences of war and exile. The Arab Collective Ma’louba has worked in residency at the Theater an der Ruhr in Mülheim since 2017. In Your Love Is Fire, they use tragic-comical elements to tell a story of daily life in a state of emergency.
