But once you ask me and I try to explain it, I do not know.

 (Aurelius Augustinus)

A trickle, a river, a brook? What is time? It is always in motion. In their performance Zeit / Temps (Time), choreographers Verena Billlinger and Sebastian Schulz take us on a brittle journey through time from crinolines to high heels, from allonge wigs to hair gel. Ever since the Baroque, dance has always also been reflection of the relationship between society and the individual, between state and body. As living sculptures, the dancers shift their positions and postures in an empty space and lead us through the various styles of the modern European era. They hesitate, linger, dance. They glance at each other, encounter and miss each other. They welcome the chance, listen to the moment, hear the silence of faded voices. And time? It lingers, expands, contracts, cannot be grasped, vanishes.

Verena Billinger & Sebastian Schulz deal with society and the public. For their artistic shapings and stagings, they focus in their own arche-types and topics on the role of the body. They understand its movement as a conveyor and sign of life, which they use to create images, effects and affective fields of tension. In 2014, the duo received the Artist Prize of the North Rhine-Westphalia. The international dance journal “tanz” declared Verena Billinger & Sebastian Schulz to be the “New Hope for Dance” in their Yearbook 2015. The duo’s artistic work has been supported by the NRW Funding for Excellence since 2015, as well as by the City of Düsseldorf and since 2017, also by the City of Frankfurt on a multi-year basis.
