as part of the 40th One World Days

Performance Social/Urban Movements Theatre & Performance

The Republic of Moldova, too, was swept up in the capitalist triumph and technological advances since it gained state independence in 1991. A future as a communal project and, therefore, the prospect of a good life for everyone have been relegated to the farthest reaches. The I has become exploited, estranged, stressed out, and it needs to be permanently productive to ensure survival. With this second instalment of their “Sinfonie des Fortschritts (Symphony of Progress)” trilogy, Nicoleta Esinencu and teatru- spălătorie demand the right to imagine an alternative to capitalism back. In a rousing polyphony of sounds and interviews, they create a beat on-stage that turns into capitalism’s nightmare.
